Estes Rockets
How can I design an Estes rocket to ignite another rocket after having the previous one burn out?

I am designing my very own rocket. I wanted to know how I can design a rocket that will be able to ingite another rocket attached to it.

These are not my exact plans, but I am giving a simplified version of what I want to do. I realize that these plans are unstable. THese are just examples of what i want to do.

I want to launch a comache-3 estes rocket. Once it is all burned out, I would like for it to ignite a rocket placed next to it. I am talking not about rocket engines, but rockets entirely.

To be more specific, I will have (this is an example) an estes rocket placed next to another estes rocket. They will be attatched. They will both be comache-3 rockets. The first comache-3 rocket will ignite and launch. oNce it is all burned out, it will ignite the comache-3 rocket next to it.

My question is how Can I get it to ignite the rocket next to it? Please be specific. Thanks!!

My main question would be, “how are they going up together – side by side like that?” The D12 booster would not be able to lift two fully loaded commanche-3 rockets very well, and you would be extremely lucky to have enough speed of the pad to keep it stable. I don’t see this working.

For staged rockets, there are two modes of ignition. The first is used by the Commanche-3 you mentioned (direct staging of black powder motors with -0 booster motors being used). You can also purchase a micro timer (like this one… http://68.178.208.82/cgi/PF_Store/perlshop.cgi?ACTION=enter&thispage=miniT3.html&ORDER_ID=!ORDERID! ) and mount that in a bay in your rocket. The timer is set to fire after a pre-set amount of time from lift off (as sensed by the timer). These timers don’t have enough current to fire an Estes igniter reliably, so that’s another issue you’ll have to wrestle with. Parallel staging like this is typically used in larger high power rockets. Model rockets like the Estes rockets usually stick with direct staging methods to avoid the weight of timers and batteries.
