Resin casting – How do I get started?
I need to make a prototype for a medical device that I intend to patent. It will be made of soft silicone.
How do I get started – I know nothing about this.
Is there a kit I can buy?
Most of your better product is going to be a two-part mixture, much like epoxy. However, you will also need a mold if you’re going to cast, so you’d make a model of your piece, then a mold of that, then you’d cast your final prototype. If your final product is going to be silicone, then resin isn’t really going to do the trick–it’ll be hard as a rock. However, there are silcone based products out there. I’ve used mold making materials and plastics from this place : www.smooth-on.com I’d reccommend Oomoo for molds.
